Stuck in the middle.
I haven't abandoned this blog, I've just been squeezing all of the work for the class I am taking into one week. So, I haven't gotten a lot of non-school reading done. I'm currently in the middle of these books though:
It's super cute and makes me feel like I was super lame when I was 14.
David Sedaris' newest. I really like David Sedaris in the sense he writing doesn't require much of an attention span and makes for quick and easy but highly amusing reading.
I'm almost done with this one. I don't think it's as good as his previous books. It seems sort of forced, like David Sedaris trying to do David Sedaris. Maybe I've just become too aquainted with his style. So far Soultion to Saturday’s Puzzle is my favorite.
I found this book while shelving at the library. I've probably read the first page of at least half of the books in the library. Sometimes I feel like reading past the first page, and that's when I actually check books out. This one had an interesting first page.
I'm a little more than halfway through. It's okay so far. The essays are interesting, but a lot of the writing is dull (which is to expected from most anthropologists, I guess). So far my favorite part has been an essay about the intricacies of olive oil production and the olive-oil-based subculture in Tuscany. There's also an interesting examination of ritual fattening of young girls in Niger.
I'm only about 20 pages into this one, so I don't have much of an opinion yet. It's basically short vignettes about the author and her Iranian family adjusting to American culture. I have high hopes.
